What if Microsoft designed iPod packaging

February 28th, 2006  |  Published in Funny  |  2 Comments

Ipod_2 Of course Apple released new products today. Thank God there was no mention of the fictitious Microsoft I-pod PRO 2005 XP Human Ear Professional Edition with Subscription. So what actually would happen if Microsoft designed iPod packaging? It’s safe to say the parody video is actually a pretty realistic example of what happens when clients play "art director". Strategy, creativity, process, expertise and big ideas are launched out the window. "Add this big circle, change the color, make the copy and logo bigger, just make it pop" The result is a complete communication and design disaster. Watch it.

Frankly, I’m offened. You designer types with your “less is more” mentality always trumpeting the sublime beauty of “simplicity in design” and “form follows function” mumbo jumbo. Well I listened to your little schpeel now you listen to mine. Personally I’m a leader, not a follower that always wants to play follow-the-leader and exhibits apparent neuro-difficiency, grapsing the synergenic, evolvo-thinking, pro-active paradigm that it taks to compete in todays “e”driven market schematic. I don’t think I can put it any plainer language than that!
You know, honestly I’m getting a little tired of hearing about “elegance in design” and all this rhetoric about “minimal elements resonating for maximum effect”. Hogwash! I saw the “joke” Microsoft design for the iPod and it is clearly far superior. I makes my eyes and head dance and swim in a veritable smorgasbord of 22-6pt text and multiple typefaces within an endless sea of copy and all of it majestically highlighted in various boxes and colored circles, never once letting my mind get bored to near death on some single profound image that really could only make me think. You people probably only listen to one radio station at a time too! Besides its probably just laziness that keeps you artsy-fartsy types from wanting to do your homework anyway, all you want to do is doodle. But if you would just knuckle down and read what Uncle Bill is trying to dissiminate in his packaging messages maybe you could finally see the great sense of his master plan. Why just last week I finished reading the brilliant Windows ‘98 box and pakage literature and am looking forward to diving into Windows 2000 and eventaully in a year or two seeing how it all comes together on XP, you guys probably threw those away. Your loss.

Well I hope that I have made my point, I feel that I have.
