Low at Gallery Sounds
Low played on Monday night at the Gallery Sounds Concert Series at Randy Bacons Studio. Which has been bringing in great music such as Cat Power, The High Strung, More Shallows, Hockey Night and more to our sleepy little Midwestern College Town. Low has been the poster child for "slowcore" and a night of mellow audio pleasure was had. They of course played classics and much of The Great Destroyer which was deemed as a more energetic departure from their even more snorecore past which makes the word low a fitting name for the band.
The atomsphore was aniticpatory and somber while Low made a moving and sonic use of their minimal resources as expected. Using only their voices,
a guitar, a bass, and minimal drums, Low created a broad range of musical atomospheric emotions. They were energetic, meloncholy, happy, funny, serious and angry wrapped up into one package without ever having to play anything really fast. That’s
quite a feat to accomplish and they did it exceptionally well.
